Previous talk by Keith Makan
Abstract: "Introduction to Cryptanalysis: and the two time pad attack. This lecture will cover a conceptual introduction to some of the thinking concepts and history needed in order full appreciate the advancements in cryptanalysis and cryptography thus far; as well as provide a discussion about the two time pad attack"
"Analysing software for security vulnerabilities and developing new ways to discover and exploit software is what gets Keith Makan out of bed in the morning. As an an IT Advisory and Penetration Tester at IOActive Inc, he also tries to spend as much of his time as possible mastering security testing techniques and developing ways to detect and exploit vulnerabilities. His aim is to further the state of the software security assessment art.
Keith enjoys solving new and exciting problems, breaking new ground and taking on bold challenges. He is also passionate about teaching others, transferring skills and inspiring people to look at software and software security from a creative perspective.
He is dedicated to protecting users and making security a practical and usable experience. "I believe that people with the technical insight to break software and circumvent security have a responsibility to help protect the world from those who would abuse such insight to harm or damage the security of others," he says.

"Bringing affordable communications to rural South Africa: Zenzeleni Networks"

Zenzeleni Networks Mankosi is the result of a partnership between the Mankosi community, in one of the most disadvantaged areas of the Eastern Cape, and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) that aims to create a model for the sustainable implementation of bottomup local telcos in rural communities in South Africa to reduce the cost of communications for its dwellers. A proof of concept is running in Mankosi since 2012.

In this event the results from the multidisciplinary research team from UWC will be discussed first. Then, the steps taken to translate them and make them available to a larger audience, and the process initiated to replicate them elsewhere will be presented by partner organizations.
