I obtained my doctoral degree in 2006 from the KTH-Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. I held lecturing positions at the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Cape Town before joining the Computer Science department at the University of the Western Cape in January 2014. Since 2006, I have been a frequent consultant of the UNESCO through its International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste-Italy, the World Bank and other international organizations on different telecommunication projects.

My recent work with the World Bank involves the design of an e-governance software package enabling reporting through an SMS system. I am a senior associate of the UNESCO International Centre for Theoretical Physics of Trieste/Italy and have been actively involved in the centre training programme on wireless networking. I have been on the technical programme committees of more than 50 international conferences and on the editorial board of international journals. I also co-chaired international conferences in the field of telecommunications and ICT. I have authored/co-authored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed conferences, journals and book chapters.

My research interest is Computer Networking with a specific focus on the Internet-of-Things, Cloud Computing, Network security and Network protocols for wireless and wired mesh networks and hybrid networks.
